19: Small Bets

A few months ago, I read this article by Jakob Greenfeld. The article itself was a great read, as Jakob's stuff always is. What he's saying rings true, especially for someone like myself who is very time poor.

In an ideal world, I am extremely picky about what projects I pursue, the numbers need to stack up. The issue: I am still in a skill-building phase. My coding skills are not up to scratch, and I don't have cash lying around to validate ideas with ads.

What this means is that most projects would fall into the "dont pursue" category. But in the skill-building phase, I think it's important to throw as much shit at the wall as possible, with no expectation. And as your skill improves, you can start being more discering about what you take on.

Being in the Small Bets Community I have learned about low-hanging fruit approach to small bets. Smaller bets, that may have a higher chance of success. And with success begets success, you can build some momentum this way. This is the approach I am going to take. I don't have any interest in building a unicorn, I just want a lifestyle business(es) that afford me the freedom to do what I want, when I want without being beholden to someone else.
